North Star Condemns Reckless Military Seizure of Venezuelan Leader
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Over the weekend, the Trump Administration put U.S. service members in harm’s way by launching a military operation to seize Venezuelan dictator Nicolás Maduro and his wife and forcibly bring them to the United States. Venezuela does not pose a significant national security threat to the United States, and this action likely violates both American and international law.
In response, Matthew Gravatt, Co-Founder of North Star, released the following statement:
“President Trump has once again acted illegally and recklessly—endangering American lives, undermining our national security, and risking chaos in an already fragile region. The United States has been down this road before, and history shows it rarely ends well.
“From Cold War interventions in Latin America to the catastrophic wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, Americans understand the consequences of a “shoot first, ask questions later” foreign policy: profound moral injury to those who serve, staggering costs in lives and treasure, and years—often decades—of destabilizing entanglement.
“Launching military action without a clear legal basis or a realistic endgame is irresponsible, dangerous, and deadly for both civilians and service members. North Star unequivocally condemns this operation, which represents a disgraceful misuse of the men and women in uniform who swore an oath to the Constitution—not to the political whims of a president with an irrational obsession of controlling foreign oil reserves.
“We need Democratic majorities in the House and Senate willing to stand up to Donald Trump’s dangerous actions, uphold the rule of law, ensure due process, and recognize that the use of force is a grave responsibility, never to be pursued lightly or recklessly. In 2026, we will fight relentlessly to restore Democratic majorities and elect service-oriented leaders who govern with integrity, not enable further chaos.”
